Nephilites and Rephaites

Genesis 6:4

In those days, and for some time after, giant Nephilites lived on the earth, for whenever the sons of God had intercourse with women, they gave birth to children who became the heroes and famous warriors of ancient times.

Genesis 6:5-9

The Lord observed the extent of human wickedness on the earth, and he saw that everything they thought or imagined was consistently and totally evil.  So the Lord was sorry he had ever made them and put them on the earth. It broke his heart.  And the Lord said, “I will wipe this human race I have created from the face of the earth. Yes, and I will destroy every living thing—all the people, the large animals, the small animals that scurry along the ground, and even the birds of the sky. I am sorry I ever made them.”  But Noah found favor with the Lord. This is the account of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, the only blameless person living on earth at the time, and he walked in close fellowship with God.

2 Peter 2:4-6

For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment;  and did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly;  and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly...

Jude 1:6-7

And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day;  as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

Matthew 24:37-39

When the Son of Man returns, it will be like it was in Noah’s day. In those days before the flood, the people were enjoying banquets and parties and weddings right up to the time Noah entered his boat.  People didn’t realize what was going to happen until the flood came and swept them all away. That is the way it will be when the Son of Man comes.

Numbers 13:32-33

And they spread among the Israelites a bad report about the land they had explored. They said, "The land we explored devours those living in it. All the people we saw there are of great size.  We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them."

Deuteronomy 2:10-11

(A race of giants called the Emites had once lived in the area of Ar. They were as strong and numerous and tall as the Anakites, another race of giants.  Both the Emites and the Anakites are also known as the Rephaites, though the Moabites call them Emites.

Deuteronomy 2:20-21

(That area was once considered the land of the Rephaites, who had lived there, though the Ammonites call them Zamzummites.  They were also as strong and numerous and tall as the Anakites. But the Lord destroyed them so the Ammonites could occupy their land.

Deuteronomy 3:11

(King Og of Bashan was the last survivor of the giant Rephaites. His bed was made of iron and was more than thirteen feet long and six feet wide. It can still be seen in the Ammonite city of Rabbah.)

Joshua 11:21-22

During this period Joshua destroyed all the descendants of Anak, who lived in the hill country of Hebron, Debir, Anab, and the entire hill country of Judah and Israel. He killed them all and completely destroyed their towns.  None of the descendants of Anak were left in all the land of Israel, though some still remained in Gaza, Gath, and Ashdod.

2 Samuel 21:19-20

During another battle at Gob, Elhanan son of Jair from Bethlehem killed the brother of Goliath of Gath. The handle of his spear was as thick as a weaver’s beam! In another battle with the Philistines at Gath, they encountered a huge man with six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot, twenty-four in all, who was also a descendant of the giants.

Isaiah 26:12-15

LORD, you establish peace for us;
       all that we have accomplished you have done for us.

  O LORD, our God, other lords besides you have ruled over us,
       but your name alone do we honor.

 They are now dead, they live no more;
       those departed spirits do not rise.
       You punished them and brought them to ruin;
       you wiped out all memory of them.

 You have enlarged the nation, O LORD;
       you have enlarged the nation.
       You have gained glory for yourself;
       you have extended all the borders of the land.

Daniel 2:43

As you saw iron mixed with ceramic clay, they will mingle with the seed of men; but they will not adhere to one another, just as iron does not mix with clay.

1 Peter 3:19-20

So he went and preached to the spirits in prison— those who disobeyed God long ago when God waited patiently while Noah was building his boat. Only eight people were saved from drowning in that terrible flood.

Don't get Weird on Me

Don't you go running with this stuff and get all weird on me now! I put this in here because there is a lot of discussion out there on this and related topics. As weird as this is, it gets weirder out there in internet land. There are whole communities built around this, and talk about conspiracy stuff, wow! Anyway, our purpose is to focus on the signs pointing to the return of Jesus. I'm not saying this is all true, but I'm not denying it because I focus on the meat--Jesus is coming soon and we need to be ready and get others ready.

Focus on Jesus!

Don't let yourself get excessivly distracted by this sideline stuff. If you have a personality that tends toward weird stuff, then let me tell you, there is enough in the Book of Revelation to satisfy that hunger. Keep your eyes on Jesus, the purpose and the plan. If you do that then you will do well. This stuff is just for fun; not to consume our lives.
