Egypt’s Unrest: A Prophetic Event?

We know that the mess happening in Egypt has prophetic end-time significance, but what is that exactly? The relationship of Israel and Egypt goes back thousands of years and we often think of Moses and the whole process of God delivering the Hebrew nation out of Egypt. Then there was the Six-Day War in 1967 and the 1973 war where little Israel spanked big ol’ Egypt and since that time, Egypt and Israel have been ‘friendly” or as friendly as a Muslim nation and Israel could be.

Egypt is the largest Middle East nation with over 80 million in population. 90% are Muslim and 9% are Coptic Christians. The Coptic Christians are the remnant of the evangelistic efforts of Mark; you know, Mark from the New Testament. The Copts have been having it rough lately in Egypt.

Hosni Mubarak is in his 80’s and although he managed keeping peace at the world level, Egyptians apparently were tired of his iron-fisted rule. It appears the USA is too, because they are behind some of this “reformation.” That should further bode well for the US on the international scene (sarcasm, in case you didn’t get it).  For many people, this Egyptian uprising is reminiscent of that happened in Iran back in 1979 when the Shah was deposed, chased out of town and Iran stepped back a few centuries to Islamic, radical Islamic, rule. There is concern this can happen with Egypt, although it’s reported there aren’t yet any strong radical Islamic movements organized well enough to take over.

Israel is watching closely the turmoil in Egypt. Depending on what happens there, Israel can be greatly affected. The IDF is already making plans on beefing up its protection of the southern border shared with Gaza and Egypt. It will be difficult for Israel to lose their “friendly” terms with Egypt. If that fails, there is only Jordan left, and already protests are happening there.

The situation for Israel is precarious.  If Egypt faces a regime change, chances are Israel won’t enjoy peaceful relations from the south, and if Jordanian peace fails, then the Israeli bulls-eye becomes much more focused for the surrounding nations who hate Israel.

Thus says the LORD 'Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling to all the surrounding peoples, when they lay siege against Judah and Jerusalem.  And it shall happen in that day that I will make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all peoples; all who would heave it away will surely be cut in pieces, though all nations of the earth are gathered against it' (Zechariah 12:2-3).

Some other events need to take place according to Biblical prophecy. There’s some serious business described in Psalm 83 and Isaiah 17 that needs to happen. Read by blog posts Imminent War and Gaza, the Flotilla, and Bearded Rabbis for some details on that. You might want to read Isaiah 19, while you are at it, for prophecies on Egypt.

Just before or immediately following the catching away of the church, Israel will be attacked by its surrounding nations in an effort led by Russia according to the Prophet Ezekiel in Chapters 38-39. Now I’m not making claim here that this is all going to happen in a short period of time, but I know it will happen. What is happening though is these nations are becoming the nations listed in Ezekiel who attack Israel. A study of these nations prophesied by Ezekiel will reveal who they are currently. It’s interesting that Egypt is not among these listed by Ezekiel, but today’s political event in Egypt is moving Egypt, like a chess piece, where it needs to be to make Ezekiel’s prophecy happen. While Egypt is getting all the attention, quietly changes are happening in Sudan, and Sudan is part of this Russian-Arabic-Islamic coalition that will attack Israel. Honestly, that probably is bigger news from the prophetic perspective than what’s happening in Egypt.

Following that failed attack on Israel by this coalition, the Antichrist, who I believe will be the new President of the European Union, will broker a deal with Israel, Islam, and the Palestinian Authority for peace. This Covenant of Peace (Covenant of Death, Isaiah 28:18) will make the way for the Third Temple to be constructed. And then the story goes on. The chess pieces are moving into place, but God is controlling all the pieces. They are moving into the places that will bring fulfillment of the prophetic panorama of the ages.

Are you ready?
