Wales:  A MAN has appeared in court to deny 23 charges of making or possessing thousands of extreme porno-graphic images featuring children and animals.

Derek John Williams, of Pengwyndwn estate, Blaenau Ffestiniog, denies downloading child porn and images depicting bestiality, claiming the pictures were already on the devices they were found on when he bought them.

The 53-year-old appeared before Caernarfon Crown Court on Monday to plead not guilty to each of the 23 charges he faces. Prosecutors claim the pictures were discovered on two laptops owned by Williams, and he has been charged with being in possession of 4,500 indecent images.

He is accused of an additional 14 counts of making indecent images of a child between 4 January and 26 June 2012, with the images rated variously at one, three and four on the scale of seriousness.

Williams is also charged with eight counts of making extreme pornographic images featuring sexual activity with an animal. Defending Williams, counsel Dafydd Roberts said the defendant claims he was given one computer in 2012 and bought another second-hand in 2011.

He said his client also replaced a hard-drive with one either given to him or bought second-hand from eBay. Williams claims the images were on the devices when he bought them and had been downloaded by other people.

He will face trial at Caernarfon Crown Court on Thursday, 16 January, next year.  CN
