Revelation’s Seven Dooms

10/26/2013 18:10

The father of modern prophecy teaching, Clarence Larkin, presents another list of sevens in the book of Revelation with what he calls the seven dooms. These are judgments bringing finality to Satan, the Antichrist, the False Prophet, the Antichrist government system and its religious system. Doomed also are the followers of the Antichrist and the last roundup of Gog and Magog.

The seven dooms carry Revelation right to the end of the Tribulation and into the Great White Throne Judgment.

The first doom: Religious Babylon Destroyed

Revelation 17 has a graphic description of the utter destruction of Babylon, religious Babylon.  Who is this person the Bible calls a whore? She’s the false, putrid religious system designed to support and promulgate the resurrected Roman Empire and the seat of the Antichrist. The Antichrist system of government turns on religious Babylon with first hate, then isolates and strips her of authority.

And the ten horns which you saw on the beast, these will hate the harlot, make her desolate and naked, eat her flesh and burn her with fire. Revelation 17:16

The second doom: Secular Babylon Destroyed

Secular Babylon is the governmental and cherished commercial functions of the Antichrist system. It clearly makes its break from its religious part only to soon fall to its own destruction within an hour following a purposeful warning from heaven (Revelation 18:4).

Business people, financiers, and lucre lovers will heavily lament the destruction of their beloved Babylon with whom they have become drunk with money power.

The merchants of these things, who became rich by her, will stand at a distance for fear of her torment, weeping and wailing,  and saying, ‘Alas, alas, that great city that was clothed in fine linen, purple, and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls!  For in one hour such great riches came to nothing.’ Every shipmaster, all who travel by ship, sailors, and as many as trade on the sea, stood at a distance  and cried out when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, ‘What is like this great city?’  Revelation 18:15-18

The third doom: Destruction of the Beast and False Prophet

Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. These two were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone. Revelation 19:20

The fourth doom: Destruction of the antichrist nations

And the rest were killed with the sword which proceeded from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse. And all the birds were filled with their flesh. Revelation 19:21

The fifth doom: Destruction Gog and Magog

In Ezekiel 38 and 39 Gog and Magog are Russia and its Arab coalition who strike Israel. This system and anti-Israel spirit resurrect again as they attempt to meet Christ in a final Armageddon battle that ends without starting with this fifth doom.

Now when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison  and will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle, whose number is as the sand of the sea. They went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. And fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them.  Revelation 20:7-9

The sixth doom: Satan cast into the lake of fire

The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. Revelation 20:10

The seventh doom: Judgment at the Great White Throne

This is lost humanity’s final doom, its second death. Christians are not in this judgment because they have been twice born.

Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books.  The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire. Revelation 20:11-15

What more can you say? The end is clear. It’s also clear we have the power to choose. We can do nothing and die the second death, or we can be born again. Read more here.
