Sinkhole in Louisiana Causes Residents to Evacuate
Around 150 homes in the Bayou Corne neighborhood were evacuated after a giant sinkhole opened up on the nearby Texas-Brine property. A state-contracted expert has advised that the Bayou Corne's sinkhole in Assumption Parish Homeland Security, Louisiana is irreparable if fractured. This has indicated mounting concerns that the sinkhole might have had other voids or gaps underground and that more area sinkholes might be forming. The sinkhole is now the size of five football fields and the ground is breaking up in nearby areas. Assumption Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness John Boudreaux and parish Sheriff Mike Waguespack say the sinkhole volume amount is approximately 2.7 million cubic yards smaller than the subterranean earth amount believed to have entered the cavern. This is mounting worries about voids, more subsidence in the area, and no solutions to irreparable damage. ubAlert
