The Temple Mount: The Place Where Prophecy and Politics Agree

08/04/2012 14:54

As points of religious contention go, the current status of the Temple Mount is one of the most potentially explosive issues for competing faiths anywhere in the world.

For Jews, it is the holiest place on Earth, from where the world was created, the site of the Binding of Isaac and the location of the First and Second Temples.

For Muslims too, al-Haram al-Sharif (noble sanctuary), has become a crucial place of worship and pilgrimage, where there stands a monumental shrine – the Dome of the Rock – and the al-Aqsa Mosque, a site of great importance in Islam.

This reality, combined with the Temple Mount’s physical location at the heart of contested territory, has given it a unique geopolitical combustibility not to be found anywhere else on the planet. Jerusalem Post

For Christians, it’s a sign of the end. The Third Temple being constructed is like the last sign of the end. In fact, the way we look at it, the construction of the temple will probably take place during the first 3 ½ years of the tribulation, because in the middle of the tribulation, the Antichrist enters to desecrate it.

“Therefore when you see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place” (whoever reads, let him understand), “then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.” Matthew 24:15-16

Jesus quoted the Prophet Daniel;

Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; but in the middle of the week
He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, even until the consummation, which is determined, is poured out on the desolate.” Daniel 9:27

The one week is the tribulation period of seven years that begins with a peace treaty. This next verse clearly indicates that in the middle of this tribulation period, the Antichrist will end Jewish sacrifices in the temple and he will abominate it.

“So he shall return and show regard for those who forsake the holy covenant. And forces shall be mustered by him, and they shall defile the sanctuary fortress; then they shall take away the daily sacrifices, and place there the abomination of desolation. “ Daniel 11:31

Then in the following verse, Daniel makes it very clear that this event takes place in the middle of the tribulation.

“And from the time that the daily sacrifice is taken away, and the abomination of desolation is set up, there shall be one thousand two hundred and ninety days (3 ½ years). Daniel 12:11

We Christians get all excited when we hear rumors of the Third Temple being rebuilt. It’s a sign that we are approaching the time for the tribulation and therefore the rapture.

Jews believe that the Third Temple will usher in Messiah, so they are anxious for the rebuilding of the temple. There’s just a little problem with that. Islam has a mosque and a shrine on the Temple Mount that serve to prevent construction of a Jewish temple.

To add insult to injury, Jewish visits are regulated on the Temple Mount, and they are even restricted from praying there.

The Temple Mount is the only place in the world where prophecy and politics agree. It’s all going to come to a head; there will be nothing pretty about it. Everyone realizes this and that’s why they are working so hard to bring peace to the troubled Middle East. Soon, that ancient mount will become the focus of all the world’s attention. Presidents, prime ministers, kings, popes and priests will all hold their breath as the Son of Perdition brings the coveted peace with terms agreeable to all. This peace agreement of the ages will initiate the construction of the highly anticipated Third Temple. Click on these articles for more:

Jews have been preparing for years for this event. The priests have been identified through DNA testing and they are attending school, the show bread is ready, and potential blue prints are ready for construction. Science and technology are ready for a quick job of the long-awaited construction project. It will be done in time for the Antichrist to enter and perform his desecration.

Conversations around politics and religion are known ways to incite heated debate, but one thing they agree on, the Temple Mount is a religious and political volcano that has been pressurizing for a world-shaking explosion. Politicians and prophets agree—the explosion is eminent.

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May they prosper who love you. Psalm 122:6
